NC BLUES IN THE SCHOOL

As a way to give back to the community and help bring live music via a true American art form into the lives of our children, Burriss Amps and Q Lighting have chosen to help implement the Blues in the School program in our local communities. On January 27th, 2009 we  kicked off the Wake County School System’s first BITS program by bringing in Roger “Hurricane” Wilson for a four day artist in residency program to Powell Elementary. Throughout the four days the program integrated the history, song writing, and playing of the blues into history, drama, dancing, art and music classes. The program encompasses much more than the teaching of the music. It provides and exciting way to teach the children the journey and stories of the people and the music from it’s origins in Africa to the Delta, through the Eastern United States and up to Chicago by having them visualize and learn the rich story on maps as well as through performing arts. If you are interested in bringing this program to your area please contact us by emailing iplaner@burrissamps.com.
